MEDIATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION

 

Your dispute does not have to turn into a legal battle.  Mediation can help you resolve your dispute outside of the traditional courtroom setting and without an attorney.  Mediation is a process where a neutral third party acts as an intermediary to assist parties to a dispute reach a mutually acceptable agreement.  In mediation, the parties to the dispute are in control of the outcome.  The end result is a fair, satisfying, cost-effective, and time-efficient resolution to your dispute.   

Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process; if an agreement cannot be reached in mediation, the parties have not forfeited any of their legal rights and can bring their dispute to court.

MEDIATOR  

Mediation services are provided by Serena Lau of Accord Mediation Group.  Ms. Lau received her Master’s degree in Social Work and Law degree from Washington University in St. Louis , Missouri .  Ms. Lau began her career as a Corporate Law Attorney.  She has served as in-house counsel for various large corporations in Connecticut , New York , and North Carolina .  Her legal expertise is in negotiation with specializations in business, consumer issues, real estate, employment, marketing and advertising, and intellectual property.   

After practicing law for nearly ten years, Ms. Lau shifted her professional focus and dedicated her career to mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.  Ms. Lau’s passion for mediation began in 1994. Since that time, Ms. Lau has incorporated her mediation and conflict resolution skills into her day-to-day practice.  Ms. Lau has served as the Director of Dispute Resolution at the Better Business Bureau in Savannah , Georgia where she developed and implemented the Dispute Resolution Program.  She was also on staff at the ADR Center, Inc. in Wilmington , North Carolina where she served as a family mediator, Cooperative Parenting instructor, and trainer.    

Ms. Lau is certified by the NC Dispute Resolution Committee to conduct mediations in Superior Court, Family Financial Settlement, Estate & Guardianship cases in North Carolina .  She is also certified by the NC Industrial commission to conduct Workers’ Compensation mediations.
